Licensing: The Basics

Licensing enables site administrators to control access to content, operate a flexible commercial model, and upsell products to subscribers

Content Catalyst facilitates highly flexible, adaptable systems of access management. The in-platform licensing system creates seamless user journeys for customers – both prospective and existing – with clear upgrade paths to expanding the breadth of their licenses and subscriptions if implemented correctly.

Licenses can be granted for content as granular as a single report section, function on a time-sensitive basis or control access to certain content formats, such as the often-sensitive underlying data behind charts and graphs.

Licensing: the key concepts

Licensing Levels (chapter/report/category)

Content Catalyst enables you to create ultra-personalised subscription packages. Say goodbye to broad, inflexible licensing. Now, you can curate tailored plans on a category, report or even chapter-level basis.

Global/Account/User

Alongside managing licensing at a content level, you also have full control over which groups of users can be added to a specific license.

All licenses can be set on a per-user basis if they are highly personalised or for a whole account if it is a more general content package.

More information can be found here:

Setting times/expiry dates

Full control over the active time of licences is also possible - whether it's a week as part of a trial or a full year's subscription, you choose.

More information on how to set expiry dates can be found here:

Controlling exports/downloads

In the interests of security and the protection of intellectual property, you can decide whether users can download your content (i.e. take it off the Content Catalyst platform), which content formats they can download, or if downloads are completely restricted.

This setting can be set on a per-user, per-account or on a global level.
